Le Tertre

The Farmhouse at 'Le Tertre'
We offer three modern holiday gites for two people each in a recently converted barn in the heart of glorious open countryside, on the borders of Lower Normandy (Orne) and the Loire (Mayenne).

When we moved to Le Tertre about seven years ago, it was to escape the rat-race of our busy working lives and the stressful commuting and long hours culture of the UK. Le Tertre is a complete antidote to that lifestyle, with its rural setting in the middle of rolling countryside on the southern border of Lower Normandy where it meets the Mayenne region of the Pays de le Loire. The peace and quiet of this area is so relaxing that within hours of getting here you will begin to unwind and settle into the rural French way of life.

The gastronomic specialities of the surrounding areas include tasty local produce made from the abundant apples and pears, including poiré (similar to champagne but made with pears), calvados (apple brandy) and the less potent pommeau, a blend of apple juice and calvados. This region is also well-known for its huge range of cheeses, including Camembert, Livarot, Pont l’Evêque, Neufchâtel and of course Brie.

There are a number of great restaurants in this region, from the fine dining experience of ‘La Marjolaine’ and ‘Beau Rivage’ in Mayenne, ‘La Forge’ in Fontaine Daniel and others in the pretty town of Bagnoles de l’Orne, to the many more modest and unassuming restaurants and bistros around this part of France just waiting for you to discover!

For the more active holidaymaker, apart from the many country walks and cycle routes, there are many other activities available including kayaking/canoeing, golfing, fishing, horse riding, sailing/boating, go-karting and more.

Of course Normandy and neighbouring departments also have a number of historic places to visit and sights to see, including a number of chateaux, museums and medieval towns.

Le Tertre was built in 1832 and operated as a farm until the latter part of the last century. We originally bought the property in 2007 and have spent much of the time since moving here permanently carrying out extensive renovations. Your holiday gite is a detached barn-conversion situated next to our farmhouse.

So for your chance to come and stay at Le Tertre and explore this beautiful part of the world please check our availability for the dates you want to come then contact us to make your booking. We look forward to welcoming you for your holiday at Le Tertre!
